3 Secrets
- Getting subscribers while connecting with big names: One of my favorite book marketing podcasts, Novel Marketing, just did an episode on using KingSumo to build an email list (fast) by running a giveaway. In the words of host Thomas Umstattd Jr., “One of the great things about KingSumo is it incentivizes sharing. You enter the giveaway, but you can earn additional entries by getting your friends to sign up too, so it becomes a viral contest.
You could buy and give away 5 of the top books your readers might be interested in and KingSumo helps make that giveaway go viral.
Read more about exactly how to implement this here.
SO, what does this have to do with connecting with big names within your niche?
Let’s say you’re giving away 5 free books as your prize. If you have a podcast, you can use the fact that your guests’ books will be included in a listener giveaway as extra incentive to encourage them to come on your show. I suppose this is really 2 secrets in 1. - Why Amazon reviews really matter: You’ve heard me talk before about how Amazon looks at who’s bought your book previously when deciding who to show your book to next. That’s not all they look at. What matters more is who’s bought AND reviewed your book.

To use a book metaphor…

If someone purchasing your book gives Amazon a paragraph of information about your reader than someone buying and reviewing your book gives them a whole page of data. In this hypothetical book of who your reader is, who is reviewing your book will fill the majority of pages in that file.

Make sure the right people are reviewing your book! - Event Seeding:Â We’ve talked about individual reader seeding, now let’s talk about event seeding.

Find and reach out to 100 events in your niche or industry. Heck…even asking chatGPT for a list of events will give you something to start with.

Find a contact email or phone number on that event website and offer to send them free copies they can add to their attendee goodie bags. Some events may require some level of paid sponsorship to do so but many would gladly receive the extra value for their attendees.

If you have editorial reviews from top voices in your industry, you’ll want to include those when you reach out.
