spiderwebbing backwards from editorial reviews

3 secrets, 2 links & 1 quote

Before The Bestseller (which answers this question) is dropping next week….

ONLY 2 YEARS LATE!

If you’re a Kindle reader, you can pre-order now. If you prefer print (like me) you can get it March 4th.

Keep an eye out next Wednesday morning, I’ll be sending a link to a live interview I’ll be doing later in the day – teaching some of the core principals from it.

Also, ANYONE who buys and leaves and honest review will get a free 20 minute book marketing session with me. More to come on that.

3 Secrets

  1. Spiderwebbing backwards from editorial reviews. I’ve got some bangin’ fancy-pants editorial reviews from people like Dave Chesson, Nir Eyal, and Allan Dib. I’ve made a list of all the podcasts those people have guested on. I’m now reaching to those shows and including their previous guests quote for me within the pitch. Gives me a leg up being vetted by someone they clearly already trust 🙂 DO THIS!
  2. BGoodreads Giveaway: A test product for non-fiction authors to market their book on the platform is the Goodreads Giveaway, which allows readers to enter to win a free digital or print version of their book. Since people are competing for a copy of your book, it creates value in the reader’s mind. In addition, every entrant has your book automatically placed on their Goodreads Want To Read list. This is particularly valuable for books that are not yet released and available for pre-order on Amazon as on the release date of your book, all of these people with the book on their Want to Read List will receive an “On Sale Notification Email” from Goodreads.Final note, if you’re giving away a free print version, you get the names and addresses of the people who win. After readers have received their free copy, you can follow up with them to see if they’d be willing to leave a review. This can be a great way to seed copies and get reviews.
  3. Providing value to influencers and mentors: When you’re starting out, it can be very hard to hear people tell you, “find a way to provide value to the person you want to connect with”. Oftentimes I found myself saying “If I knew how to give value to them I wouldn’t need their help”. BUT, that’s actually NOT true. The way you give value doesn’t have to be in the same category as what you need from them. For example: I will often offer to teach authors how to surf as a way to enrich their life and build that connection. It’s a unique skillset and something a lot of people want to learn. What is it you’re good at in your personal life? Pickleball? Spanish? Comic books? Cooking? Don’t try to provide value the same way, provide value in a way that’s unique to you. OR figure out what the influencer needs help with in their personal life and either figure out how to help them or find someone who can.
