Reader,

There was so much book marketing wisdom in last week’s Before The Bestseller episode with Mike Michalowicz (listen here), it was bound to overflow into this 3-2-1 edition too.

Sorry not sorry πŸ™‚

3 | Book marketing secrets

1. Front Loading

Front-load the book. Mike estimates that of 1,000 buyers, only about 200 open the book, about 80% of those finish chapter one, and just 10–20% finish the whole thing.

So your best ideas belong in the first chapter or two.

That’s your chance to convince someone to keep reading or learn enough to recommend the book to someone else.

2. Teach with the title

Try to teach the book in the title.

Most people using Profit First never read it, because the title already tells them what to do: take your profit first.

Mike calls a title like that “the hack of the century.”

If the title serves as a reminder of what to do, you’ve already won.

3. Grab 2 authors and host a webinar

Co-host webinars with two other authors.

Each author invites their own list, so two-thirds of the audience is new to each of you.

Mike hosts, keeps the pace fast, and halfway through tells viewers they can thank the guests by buying their books.

At one event, about 2,500 registered, about 500 showed up, and they sold 100+ books.

1 | Book worth your shelf

I love it when I have a guest on the podcast whose book has actually changed my life.

The Money Habit is one such book.

Month after month I found myself well over my budget.

Good intentions and a seemingly foolproof plan at the start of the month turned into frustration and disappointment at the end of it.

Over and over again.

In The Money Habit I found what was missing in my finances.

  1. Benchmarks for how I should be spending based on my income level
  2. A new way to think about my expenses: Wants vs. ACTUAL needs
  3. A way to actually course correct. Instead of getting to the end of the month and just being frustrated, The Money Habit shows me exactly where the leaks are and how to prevent them next month.

Yes, he’s a friend (and client) but I can genuinely recommend The Money Habit for how it’s improved my own personal finances.

IF your personal finances could use a touch-up (and you keep going over budget) 5 stars.
IF you’re not then 3 stars.

1 star = I do not recommend
2 stars = Maybe a useful idea or two
3 stars = Worth the read
4 stars = Must read
5 stars = Stop what you’re doing and buy this book
