Reader, Back home in Virginia this week hanging out with the family 🙂
3 Secrets: 1. Medication disguised as candy: Mark Manson was a miserable low-level finance bro in Boston. And then he was dumped. So he dived headfirst into the world of pickup artistry. After “mastering” the art he started getting asked by men to join him at the bar. That quickly turned into a profession as a dating coach. He quit his job as a finance bro and became more or less a parent to guys who needed a good shower. Manson then took aim at the sleazy pickup world which spent too much time on trickery. He self published “Models” which became highly recommendable due to its misleading title that seems like it’s telling guys how to “play” the game but is actually just telling them to clean up and aspire to better versions of themselves. Models began to pay the bills for Manson. Between the book and his blossoming anti-self help self help blog, his following began to grow. With its head turning title and bright orange cover, Manson was able to leverage his existing platform to propel him onto the mainstream reading lists. I was talking about podcasts to a friend recently. They started talking about how they love watching their favorite podcast. Something I never considered, so I looked into if they were alone… Spotify now lets you post the video along with the audio of each episode. According to the Spotify Newsroom, the number of users consuming video podcasts surged by 88% in one year, with over 170 million users watching video podcasts by June 2024. You better believe we’re hopping on it and based on the numbers, it might be something for you podcast hosts out there to consider as well. More to come on what growth that leads to for Before The Bestseller. 3. The truth about influencers That said, it doesn’t mean there isn’t a way to play the influencer game strategically. For example, if you’re book is educational and for high school or middle school students, I’d send a free copy to any and every principal and school administrator I can find. That’s it, a free copy. NO money. There are a lot of principals and school admins trying to have an online parents to engage students and their parents. I’d go directly to these “gate holders” instead of paying $1,000 to a bookstagram with 100K followers. 2 Links
