Reader, Curious how to protect your intellectual property in this new AI web scrapping world? Kary Oberbrunner just launched Instant IP. Instant IPᴵᴾ is the patented blockchain-based solution for Intellectual Property protection. It’s much faster, easier, and cheaper than traditional means. You can protect your creativity without needing to apply for a copyright or patent. Since I hear from a lot of authors about their fears around AI stealing their words, I decided to invite Kary to come in and have a quick live chat with our people about IP on October 16th at 11am PST. Just respond to this to get your free ticket to our event and you’ll get a free IP protection by joining our chat. Again, just respond to get your ticket to the free event on October 16th at 11am PST/2pm EST (next Thursday). Today’s 321 is inspired by this weeks Before The Bestseller interview with one of the host of the longest running book marketing podcast in the world, Thomas Umstattd Jr. 3 Secrets: 1. AI Thomas Will every book have it’s own AI companion in the future? Thomas Umstattd Jr. follows the development of one book to figure out what’s next. The book? What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff A book that’s been around since 1984. Thomas says the publishers have been able to successfully ride each new book format wave. In the early 2000’s, they were one of the first to have an ebook format up for sale. The What to Expect app first launched on iOS in 2009 and later on Android in 2014. The launching of the app embraced and rode the digital community wave. So what’s next? Thomas expects it to be the What to Expect AI. For that reason, Thomas has turned himself into a consultative AI, trained on hundreds of hours of his Novel Marketing podcast transcripts, blogs, and anything else he’s written or spoken about book marketing. You can imagine the depth that an AI trained on over 10 years of podcast transcripts would have. It’s a level of book marketing depth that and nuance that ChatGPT lacks. What’s interesting is that your unique voice, content, and IP, has never mattered more. A podcast used to be about gaining a follower-ship, now it’s a great way to get all your thoughts and beliefs transcribed so you can ride the next wave of educational technology, an AI version of yourself. As Thomas says, the weirder you are right now the better, chatGPT can’t be you. We use a tool called chatbase to develop our custom AI’s. Amazon just opened up their Display Ads product to everyone so you should notice a new feature in your advertising.amazon.com account
So far we’ve seen a much higher CPC for these ads but it IS driving additional sales for our authors. Give it a try and let us know what you think. 3. A reminder that your book doesn’t need to die After 3 months of almost zero sales, my co-author and I realized college students weren’t going to spend $10 to buy what was essentially a glorified career guide. We realized we’d be better off contacting universities (owners of communities) to distribute the book on college campuses and then getting companies who wanted to hire those students to sponsor the book. One university – Kansas State – outright bought 500 copies. Elephant Insurance and Kohls both bought one-page ads for $1000 a piece. C.R. Stewart of the Bestselling Britfield series did this by contacting almost all the middle schools across the US to do a virtual event with students. Find out why your book isn’t selling, repackage if you need to, and find the gatekeepers to your ideal communities. 2 Links
