Reader,

G-day! Straight to the meat and potatoes today:

ALL (well mostly) ABOUT LinkedIn…

3 Secrets:

1. Use your SSI score to improve your reach: Thanks to Navid Nazemian of Mastering Executive Transitions for this tip.

Did you know LinkedIn scores your account?

It’s called your Social Selling Index which breaks down how well you’re doing in 4 areas:
1. Establish your professional brand. Complete your profile with the customer in mind. Become a thought-leader by publishing meaningful posts.
2. Find the right people. Identify better prospects in less time using efficient search and research tools.
3. Engage with insights. Discover and share conversation-worthy updates to create and grow relationships.
4. Build relationships. Strengthen your network by finding and establishing trust with decision makers.

You can use this score to figure out how to improve your impact and reach on the platform. Get your score here.

2. How Navid Earned his Blue badge and what does it do: Navid has also earned the coveted blue badge that LinkedIn gives to a select group of influencers they deem to be worthy of extra reach.

Navid says he’s seen a significant increase in how much his posts are even shown to his OWN network just by having that designation.

In short, earning the blue badge gives you extra love by the LinkedIn gods to show up in more users’ feeds.

He attributes earning that badge to posting just once per week on the platform vs. posting every day.

The difference is the quality of that one piece. It’s not something outlined by AI or copied and pasted from elsewhere. Navid writes about a client interaction, recent epiphany, or another genuinely interesting thought (one he’d personally stop scrolling to read).

If your audience is on LinkedIn, quality matters a whole lot more than quantity. Check out what Navid writes here.

3. How Jim Murphy sold 100,000 books in a day: To further emphasize the “need to seed” I will tell you the story of Jim Murphy. Jim Murphy of Inner Excellence spent 15 YEARS seeding 9,000 copies of this book.

Everything changed one day when, during an NFL playoff game, eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was caught on TV reading it. That day, Jim Murphy sold over 100,000 copies.

Seeding is putting yourself in a position to get lucky. Jim has no idea how that book make it into the hands of A.J. Brown but it was only possible because of the 9,000 copies Jim had seeded “into the wild”.

Listen to how Jim Murphy seeded 9,000 copies and how he kept going even after 15 years without a lucky break here.

1. Leaving this here again because of how important it is: All of these tips were learned from one of my favorite book marketing shows, The Novel Marketing Podcast. Listen to that episode here. REQUIRED listening for all authors who want to remain relevant. Man oh man I should be getting paid to recommend this show but it’s the real deal for authors to learn about book marketing.

2. From 9,000 Copies in 15 Years to 100,000 in One Week: The NFL Playoff Moment That Rewarded a Lifetime of Obsession with Jim Murphy. Listen here.
